Entering the competition

The process involves the following steps.

  1. Registering a team.
  2. Downloading the proving/testing software.
  3. Proving phase
  4. Testing phase

1. Registering a team

Visit the competition server to register a team.

Send an email to christos@rl-competition.org so that we can verify it.

2. Downloading the software

Go to the competition server and log in. Click on the Download Now button.

If the server is slow,  rl-competition-2013-proving.tar.bz2 and rl-competition-2013-system.tar.bz2 from this page and extract them.

After you unpack the archive, run install.bash.

To execute the software, go to the directory proving/ and execute run.bash - this will start the visual environment.

3. Proving phase


The proving phase is used to fine-tune your agents. The results of this phase are not used in the competition rankings. You have a limited number of attempts in this phase, so use them wisely.

Log in to the server using proving application and the credentials you used to register.

Select a domain in the proving category and click on run experiment.

Start your own agent. After some time, the experiment will end.  The results will be saved in the server and should be visible on the leaderboard.

4. Testing phase.


The results of the testing phase are used to rank algorithms (according to total return)

Log in to the server using proving application and the credentials you used to register.

Select a domain in the testing category and click on run experiment.

Start your own agent. The results will be saved in the server.
